  • Dear participant,

    welcome to the Train-the-Trainer (TtT) course template.  The template includes:

    1. Sidebar Blocks: 
    • Automatically generated table of contents
    • A placeholder for your logo
    2. Topics:
    a) Communication tools
    • Text & Media area with logotypes. In this activity you can also edit in HTML so it is highly adjustable.
    • Announcement: a forum where you can post announcements and all the registered participant get the message to their email.
    • Discussion forum: a place for participants to discuss, ask and answer.
    • General Chat Room: a chat room that enables participants to communicate on the go.
    b) Videoconference link
    • This topic includes a link to the video conference which comes in handy for remote or hybrid events.
    c) Agenda and materials
    • A placeholder for your agenda and materials. The template includes a PDF placeholder that you can replace with your own materials. You can add other media formats besides PDFs, like PPTX, DOCX etc.
    d) Exams (Quizzes)
    • Exams: an activity to test knowledge of the participants. You can edit the questions as you like. Exams can be used by participants to self assess their knowledge.
    e) Certificate of attendance
    • An auto-generated Certificate of attendance where you can define your own template and also set rules which activities need to be completed (or passed) in order to get access to the certificate.
    f) A survey
    • A short term survey with a general set of questions compatible with TMD which you can edit/complement to your needs.

      • In the lower part of the VC window there are buttons to mute/unmute your speakers, mute/unmute your microphone, share your screen and present files.
      • There is also a red button to disconnect from the VC.

    • How to connect

      You can find User(name) and Password information in the block SH TERMINAL INFORMATION situated in the upper left corner of the browser window.

      1. Start the Terminal.
      2. Click on 'Terminal: SSH' icon.
      3. When Terminal asks for Host/IP, SSH or PORT information, press ENTER to skip.
      4. Copy and paste the User and Password information into the Terminal window when asked for. You can do it in the following way:
        • OS X: CMD + C/X/V
        • Linux & Windows: Right click + Copy/Cut/Paste
      5. After pasting password press ENTER.
    • This course introduces trainers in the life sciences to learning principles, training techniques, lesson, session, course, and material design as well as assessment and feedback. It offers guidance, ideas and tips for designing training/teaching, development and delivery on training activities, all based on research-driven educational principles. Examples and discussions will also focus on the challenges presented by academic teaching.

      This course has been developed for and by trainers in bioinformatics but is suitable for all trainers and educators in higher education. It is part of the ELIXIR-GOBLET Train-the-Trainer programme.

    • Target audience

      This course is addressed to scientists:

      • With some to little or no teaching experience.
      • Who want to become a teacher or a better one.
      • Who believe teaching is - or may become - a relevant aspect of their professional development.
    • Prerequisites

      Knowledge / competencies

      This course is designed for scientists with some to little or no teaching experience.

      Technical

      Please bring your own computer. An access to a virtual machine will be provided so you do not need to install anything on your computer.

      This course is free of charges. It is partially sponsored by ELIXIR.

      Applications will close on dd/mm/yyyy or as soon as the places will be filled up. Please note that participation in our courses is subject to our general conditions.
